Description
Scilla hyacinthoides, (Hyacinth Squill), is known for its use in the cut flower industry.
It produces 60cm to 1m tall, long lasting flower spikes of blue star shaped flowers in mid Spring. Leaves are 30cm long and narrow.
Drought tolerant and hardy. Thrives in poor stony soil which causes it to flower well. Rich soil makes it send out foliage at the expense of flowers.
Flowers do not like early frost, as we found out last year on the farm, but did not hurt foliage.
